Maine People’s Alliance Expresses Disappointment in Collins’ Opposition to Child Tax Credit Bill
August 1, 2024
The Child Tax Credit expansion in the bill that Sen. Susan Collins and all but three of her Republican colleagues voted down today would have helped nearly 40,000 kids in Maine, and families in rural parts of the state would have seen an even greater impact.
Most people, in both parties, support expanding the CTC, and we want to thank Sen. Angus King for his support of expanding. We’re more than a little “concerned” about Sen. Collins’ decision to oppose a bill that would have helped so many of the families in Maine, even as she lifts up families in her rhetoric. But, while disappointing, her actions don’t come as a surprise.
We’re also proud of our work on this: People all over the country joined together to help more families make ends meet by expanding the CTC, and while this result is immensely saddening, it’s not the end – even getting a vote on this is a huge victory. We’ll keep fighting, together, until every family has what they need to thrive.
