Maine People’s Alliance releases annual legislative scorecard

July 1, 2024

Scorecard identifies legislators who voted to advance progressive policies, and who stood in the way.

The Maine People’s Alliance today released its annual legislative scorecard, highlighting some of the most important votes legislators took in the 2nd year of the 131st session.

Legislators voted on major issues this year, and our scorecard includes votes on reproductive and gender-affirming health care; tax fairness and corporate transparency; the pay and labor conditions of some of our most essential workers; reforming the juvenile carceral system; prescription drug affordability; expanding gun safety laws after the October 2023 Lewiston shooting; and, once again, coming a little closer to acknowledging the inherent sovereignty of the Wabanaki people in Maine.

“Our annual scorecard is a chance to give credit to those lawmakers who voted to move our state forward and improve the lives of everyday Mainers,” said MPA Co-Director Amy Halsted (she/her). “In this election year, it’s also vital that voters know that elections matter. We would not have won everything we did in this session without the strong support of progressive lawmakers voters put into office last election.”

MPA also awarded “special mentions” to legislators who went above and beyond in service of their constituents, and championed all Mainers – regardless of who they are, where they’re from and how much money they have in the bank – on the issues about which they feel most passionate.
