Maine People’s Alliance Statement on Ongoing Genocide in Gaza
August 13, 2025
Maine People’s Alliance is working to create a world where everyone has what they need and gives what they can and where no one is left behind. We are committed to fighting injustice, oppression, and political violence, no matter where in the world it occurs. As the genocide in Gaza rages on and the U.S.-backed Israeli apartheid enables a starvation crisis in Palestine, we stand in solidarity with millions of Americans who are calling for an end to the U.S.’s complicity in this violence and genocide.
Last month, Sen. Angus King said he no longer supports providing U.S. aid to Israel, a position MPA applauds. We also recognize and appreciate Rep. Chellie Pingree’s ongoing support of Palestinians, her numerous calls for a ceasefire, and her recent call for the U.S. to recognize a Palestinian state. We call on Sen. Susan Collins and Rep. Jared Golden to stop supporting U.S. aid to Israel, as this funding uses taxpayer dollars to kill and starve Palestinians.
MPA members have taken it upon themselves to organize around ending the violence over the past year. A group of MPA members helped lead the charge for Lewiston’s resolution to call for a ceasefire in 2024, and MPA board member Rep. Rafael Macias introduced legislation in April 2025 to require state divestment from perpetrators of international human rights violations.
As the crisis continues, we are committing to using our organizational power to escalate demands of our congressional delegation and other lawmakers, build public understanding of the issue on our Beacon news website and social media, educate members about opportunities for action, support policy interventions, and more.
