DESCRIPTION:A training on how to recognize and resist authoritarianism and White “Christian” Nationalism\n\nAuthoritarianism and White “Christian” Nationalism are closely linked and it’s up to us to expose that link and counteract it—for the good of our democracy and our faith. Because so-called “Christian” Nationalists and the authoritarian government they support threaten a foundation of our Constitution and our creed: belief in the sacred worth and equality of all people. \nThat’s why Maine Council of Churches and Multifaith Justice Maine are inviting you to attend this online training led by our national partners at Interfaith Alliance and get equipped to speak and act with the moral clarity this moment demands. \nAdam Friedman of Interfaith Alliance who will lead this training says\, “Faith communities have superpowers in this moment to make a real difference in unique ways. We will focus on showing what those superpowers are and how to activate them through interfaith nonviolent civil resistance.” \nAdam and others from Interfaith Alliance will teach us how to refuse to cede ground to anti-democratic activists who think their “religious freedom” should be a license to hurt others. We’ll learn how to thwart their desire for social control\, white supremacist beliefs\, gleeful malevolence\, and comfort with authoritarian violence. \nAt the end of the training\, you’ll learn about next steps you can take right here in Maine\, including a follow-up training that will be offered by Multifaith Justice Maine\, a group led by Rev. DESCRIPTION:Unconstitutional workplace arrests by federal agents are on the rise across the country. As ICE agents continue to target Maine\, federal agents are relying on people not being prepared in order to get away with unconstitutional searches. We need workplaces across Maine to be educated and organized so that unconstitutional searches don’t continue to work here. Join us to learn about how to talk to workplaces about steps they can take to make their workplaces safer from ICE raids. We will discuss how to find workplaces to talk to\, what resources we should share\, and what strategies they can utilize to minimize harm when federal agents show up. RSVP here!

DESCRIPTION:Open to staff and volunteers who want to learn how to talk to media so that they control the story\, not the reporter or the other side. Skills will include preparing for an interview\, making points and answering questions so you’re more likely to be used in the ultimate story\, staying on message no matter what\, and connecting with reporters in a positive and productive way. Training will include group/pair practice and participants will leave with materials they can use for the future. \nBecause space is limited\, we may not be able to accept everyone who applies.
